Our cheeses are medal quality
The World Prize, which has not been won by any other cheesemaker in Slovakia, was awarded in November 2017 to Kozí Vŕšok. On the world's most prestigious World Cheese Awards 2017, which took place in mid-November in London, our 6 month-old hard goat cheese won a gold medal and a 3-month-old mature semi-hard goat cheese won a bronze medal. While the bronze medal is the fourth one in the history of Kozi Vŕšok , we won the gold medal for the first time!
At the most prestigious competition of World Cheese Awards 2016, held this time in Spain, in San Sebastian (Basque Country), our 6-month goat cheese defended the bronze medal. This time more than 3,000 cheeses entered the contest, which meant the Kozi Vŕšok can withstand a huge international competition, but also a number of excellent Spanish cheeses with the support of local officials. The medal is a success and appreciation of our work at the same time as a guarantee of the premium quality of our produt.
Kozí vŕšok as the only Slovak producer of cheese was awarded a gold star at Great Taste Award 2014. This is also known as the gastronomic Oscar, and for more than 20 years it is awarded by a jury, which has 400 members and tests about 10,000 products by blind tastings to focus only on the taste of the product. Among the jurors you can find Michelin chefs, gastro critics and other experts from gastronomy. Great Taste is highly valued abroad and it is considered a guarantee of premium quality.

This time Slovaks arrived to Birmingham with a 12 months cheese, which won the bronze medal in the category of semi-hard mature goat cheeses. Last year, the 6 month old goat cheese won the bronze medal. This year's ultimate winner for the first time in the 20 year history of the competition has become the cheese from Germany - Montagnole Affi.
"Once you have the bronze, you also want gold, but in such world competition it is extremely difficult, so another bronze is also a huge success," said the owners of Leonteus Gračka Martin and Jan Morava. According to them, this year's award goes to all colleagues who are involved in the production of cheese in a modern cheese facility Kozí vŕšok Ivachnová.
One year-matured goat cheese is rare in Slovakia and because after the production it needs to be properly stored for 12 months in a maturing room and be specifically treated. Perfectly matured cheese can be recognized by its delicate, almost crumbly texture, as we know it for example in Italian Parmesan. The most important, however, is its smell and taste. While the taste of young mature cheeses is mild, in 6 or 12 month old goat cheese it develops a unique set of flavors ranging from mild citrus, nuts and ending with ticklish sharpness. It is a real delicacy.
Quality mature cheeses and natural yoghurt from Kozí Vŕšok are sold in stores across the country, as well as in the company store gastronomical and relax centre Kozí Vŕšok, located in Ivachnová, near Ruzomberok.
